How to crochet an educational toy Caterpillar
At an early age, it is very important to choose the right toys for the baby. They should be not only beautiful, but also useful. In this master class, we will knit an educational toy in the form of a caterpillar. Such a toy develops tactile sensations and memory. Very useful for developing fine motor skills.

For knitting we need:
- yarn;
- hook 3mm and 1.75mm;
- scissors;
- sintepukh;
- needle;
- rustling package, peas for filling the body of the caterpillar.
We fill the head of the caterpillar with synthetic fluff, some parts of the body can be filled with a rustling bag, and others, for example, with peas or beans.
Let’s start knitting from the head. In a sliding loop, we perform 6 stbn. We tighten the ring so that there is no hole. Next we will knit additional rows. In total, we will knit 6 rows, in which we will perform 6 additions.
In each of the rows, we will increase the number of loops by 6. In the new row, to add 6 times, we knit with the addition through 1 loop. So we get 18 loops.
We continue to knit with increments. In the new row, we will increase every 2 loops. The result will be 24 loops.
Then we knit the increase in a new row through 3 loops throughout the row.
Next, add through 4 loops. And we will complete 1 row, adding after 5 loops. There will be 42 loops in total in a circle.

We will knit the next 6 rows, performing 1 stbn in each of the loops, that is, we do not add, but we knit the part in height.
And now we will close the detail.We knit decreases every 5 loops. This means that 6 and 7 loops in all circles we knit together 1 stbn.
So we reduced the number of loops by 6. Then we continue to decrease, but now through 4 loops. Densely fill the part with sintepuh.
Then we make decreases in a new row through 3 loops. Further through 2 loops. And then we knit a row, subtracting through 1 loop.
It remains to close the hole. Therefore, we knit in a circle 2 loops together. Next, fix the thread, tighten the hole.
Should be a ball.

We knit the horns with a pink thread. Let’s start with the sliding ring. Then we knit inward 6 stbn. We pull the loop and knit the addition in all loops. We will knit new 3 rows without increments.
In the new row we will knit with a decrease in each loop. And then we knit 8 rows without adding 1 stbn in each loop.

We embroider a smile for the caterpillar with a red thread. If the smile is thin, then you can walk again.

Then we will knit the eyes. To do this, change the hook to a thinner one. In this case, a 1.75 mm hook is suitable.
We make a ring with a black thread and perform 6 stbn. Then change the thread to green and add to each loop. Change the thread to white and knit with the addition of 1 loop.

Sew the eyes and horns to the head.

Now let’s tie the body. We will knit all parts of the body in the same way, according to the same pattern. In total there will be 4 parts from a thread of different colors.
We make a sliding loop and perform 6 stbn. Then we add to each loop. Next, we will increase through 1 loop, and in the new row already through 2. You will get a circle of 24 loops.
We knit further 9 rows without increments. And then we will decrease through 2 loops, through 1 and into each loop, respectively, in 3 rows. Let’s close the hole.

Now you need to sew all the details of the body to each other.

It remains to tie the paws. To do this, we will tie beads. We make a loop and knit 6 stb inward. Increase to 12, adding to each of the loops. After that, we will complete 2 rows without increments. Place a bead inside.
And then decrease in each loop. And pull the hole, passing the thread between the loops along the edge of the hole. We will knit 15 air loops.
We knit 1 more of the same details. Next, we will knit 6 more such details. A pair of legs for each part of the body.

Sew paws on the sides. You can decorate the caterpillar with a satin ribbon bow. Educational toy Caterpillar crocheted is ready!
