How to make a butterfly from cones and leaves
Cones are different in shape and size. Pine – wide and meek. Spruce – long and thin. When there is only one type in the child’s arsenal, it is difficult to come up with a hero for crafts. The situation changes dramatically if you manage to collect a lot of different cones. Then you can create animals, birds, and even insects from them.
Today we will make a butterfly out of cones.
To work, you need to prepare:
- PVA glue;
- colorful leaves;
- plasticine;
- thin flower or herbal stems;
- 2 cones (pine and spruce);
- plastic eyes.
The photo shows the body and head of a butterfly. We will use purple plasticine to connect the parts. This is the neck of an insect.

It is possible that the top scales of the pine cone will have to be removed. This makes attaching the part much easier.

Let’s put the workpiece aside for a while, let’s take care of the wings of a butterfly. It is necessary to prepare two large trifoliate leaves (necessarily with petioles). The color does not matter, but the size should match the body.

Cutting out the middle blade in each sheet, we get two pairs of wings, like a real butterfly.

The next step is to decorate the details. We use small leaves, flowers, blades of grass and PVA glue. Decor elements should be placed at the base of the wings so as not to weigh down the edges.The insect should be colorful and airy.

While the glue dries, we continue to work on the head of the butterfly. We attach plastic eyes, a round nose to the bump. The antennae of the insect are small wildflowers. If there are no such plant samples in the herbarium collection, it does not matter, you can replace them with blades of grass or long petioles of leaves.

We attach the antennae with plasticine balls.

Finally, the decorative elements on the leaves dried out well. You can try wings on a butterfly. We stick the petioles into a plasticine ball attached to the back of the insect.

Crafts made from natural materials are ready. The butterfly is big and colorful. Temporarily plant it in a flower pot. Tomorrow we will take it to kindergarten for an exhibition of autumn crafts.

What would a huge flower be made of for an insect? Not from maple leaves. Butterfly will be lost in yellow-brown colors. Let’s think at leisure. Maybe tomorrow we will have time to make an original stand for it. Any ideas? All creative success!
